Central Library occupies a place of pride in Bengal Engineering and Science University (BESU), Shibpur and is an essential component of the University's outstanding research and education mission. It is a most lively place on the campus providing a safe comfortable and friendly environment that enables learning and advancement of knowledge, and promotes discovery and scholarship.
The mission of the Central Library is to facilitate creation of new knowledge through acquisition, organization and dissemination of knowledge resources and providing for value added services.
The Central Library has the distinction of being one of the oldest resourceful technical library in the south-east Asia. The library not only caters to the basic information needs of faculty members, research scholars and students of this university but also provides information services to researchers of neighbouring universities and research institutes.
The Library subscribes seven subject collections of Elsevier's Science Direct. The Library is a member of Indian National Digital Library in Engineering Science and Technology (INDEST) consortium and INFLIBNET Digital Library Consortium and providing access to the following electronic resources to its users.
The library community has used several different phrases over the years to denote this concept-electronic library, virtual library, library without wall-and it never was quite clear what each of these different phrases meant.
